Some 45 minutes by car from Lillehammer, you will find Skeikampen – an all-year-round destination, ideal for cycling and hiking as well as cross-country and alpine skiing. Visitors can also enjoy the Nordic region's highest 18-hole golf course (with a tennis court attached), a swimming pool and a spa hotel.
Skeikampen is located in the mountain area known as the world of Peer Gynt, where you also find Kvitfjell, Gålå and Espedalen. Follow the Peer Gynt route, and you will reach the mountain plateau at approx. 1000 metres above sea level. The road is closed during winter, but prepared ski trails run along the same route.
Langsua National Park, covering an area of 537 km², was established in 2011, and spans the municipalities of Gausdal, Sør-Fron, Nord-Fron, Øystre Slidre, Nord-Aurdal and Nordre Land. The national park has a unique eastern Norwegian forest and low-mountain landscape, and is of course free for the public to explore. To learn more about the natural and cultural history of the area, a visit to Kittilbu Utmarksmuseum in Gausdal Vestfjell is recommended.
The mountain destination Espedalen in Vestre Gausdal is another fantastic starting point for outdoor pursuits, whatever the season. At Skåbu, just north of Espedalen, you can pick up Jotunheimvegen – a route leading directly to Jotunheimen National Park.
For supplies, visit the shopping centre in Gausdal, Segalstad Bru, where you will find a number of shops – including a Vinmonopol (government-run off-licence).
