As soon as you grasp the basic techniques of cross-country skiing, all you have to do is practice. However, the first lesson is the most important. There are a few things you need to know, and these may be difficult to work out on your own. You will need a good instructor, as even experienced skiers can have problems with explaining the basic techniques.
The booklet “Walking on Snow” may be of interest to you as it provides a light-hearted but informative introduction to cross-country skiing. It is written for beginners, and in particular the British as they often have tried a bit of downhill skiing. The booklet can be found at www.richardson.no.
