About
Experience the wild plateau of Ringebufjellet, hear stories that bring history to life.
A day out in a beautiful area with fantastic views of the Rondane, where it may be possible to see wild reindeer.
During the tour you will visit the ancient reindeer traps and find out how these were used for hunting in early times. The tour then visits another old site: the "lodging pallet" - a cave, probably used for shelter, preparation for reindeer hunting and possibly as a pantry. From the top of the mountain Vesle Hirisjøhøgda you will get a good overview of the wild reindeer habitats, and if we are lucky we can see the reindeer herd. When appropriate during the tour we will take plenty of time for a lunch break.
This will be a day of exciting stories about wild reindeer and historic reindeer hunting plus a lot of new knowledge about reindeer in general.
Tore, our wildlife expert, is an enthusiastic storyteller and communicates both old stories and legends, and facts about the wild reindeer. He has been interested in outdoor life all his life, he started hunting and fishing at a young age. For Tore it is important to hunt in a humane way, not to stress the animals. Being a good hunter requires a lot of knowledge about the animals' lifestyle and habitat. Tore is particularly interested in the wild reindeer and the history of the wild reindeer on Ringebufjellet.
The walk is approximately 10km on rough terrain.
