Choose a sustainable destination for your conference
Visit Lillehammer has been accredited as a sustainable destination in line with the standard set by Innovation Norway since June 2018, and was the country’s first town and largest region to achieve this. Norway was the first country to introduce a national accreditation scheme for sustainable destinations.
When organising your event, we hope that you are looking for a solution that has low impact on the environment and local culture, and that ensures growth and positive outcomes for the local community and local business & industry.
The accreditation is a tool for improvement, and does not mean that the destination is 100% sustainable at present.

Local Food on the menu
Lillehammer and Gudbrandsdalen take great pride in their food traditions, and many restaurants have dishes typical for the area on their menus.Visitors to Norway and this area can experience food traditions dating back 200–300 years, ranging from simple everyday meals to generous feasts.
An example is kål (cabbage), a traditional soup which, despite its name, does not contain cabbage but is made with bacon, other meats and pearl barley and is served with potatoes and peas. Rømmegrøt (sour-cream porridge) is often on the menu, and so are dishes based on elk, other game and fish from clean mountain lakes – and of course fruit and berries fresh from the garden as dessert.
