To many, walking is the perfect way to relax when on holiday. Put on your hiking boots for short or long trips in the Lillehammer and Gudbrandsdalen region, and you will be spoilt for choice.
In this unique area, the spectacular, pristine scenery starts right on your doorstep – regardless of where you stay. From Skeikampen, Kvitfjell or Espedalen, you can follow the Peer Gynt trail. This route, which is named after Henrik Ibsen's famous character, is the most popular walk in the region.
It is also possible follow in the footsteps of thousands of pilgrims along Gudbrandsdalsleden – the main route to Nidaros (Trondheim) during the Middle Ages. The entire walk is 643 km long, but you can do parts and still call yourself a pilgrim.
Not far from Lillehammer, you will also find the national parks Langsua, Rondane and Jotunheimen. A natural starting point for Rondane is Rondablikk above Kvam, and from Gausdal you have direct access to Langsua.
Most areas are free of snow between June and September, but this can vary from year to year. Always check the weather forecast before you set off.
