Lillehammer has its own place in the heart of many sports enthusiasts, thanks to the 1994 Winter Olympics, one of Norway's biggest and most successful sporting events. In 2016 Lillehammer also hosted the Youth Olympic Games. Lillehammer rewards great recognition both as sports and cultural city. In 2017, the city was named UNESCO City of Literature, and each year you can experience the Norwegian Literature Festival.
In the charming and historic buildings of Lillehammer there is a modern shopping district with several specialty shops and a great selection of everything from cozy cafes to quality restaurants. The city has many museums and cultural centers, including Maihaugen, Norwegian Olympic Museum, Bjerkebæk - Sigrid Undset's home and Lillehammer Art Museum. And you should not miss a ride with Skibladner, the wheelbarrow who has shipped passengers, mail and goods between the cities around Mjøsa since 1856.
Outside the center, both young and old can play in Hunderfossen Theme Park, Kids´s Farm Hunderfossen, Lilleputthammer Miniature Town or in Hafjell with winter alps and downhill cycling in the summer.
