Venabygdsfjellet is considered by many an undiscovered trail-riding gem. Terrengsykkel, an MTB magazine, was given a guided tour in autumn 2016 – and the result was front page cover and further 14 pages of praise and photos. Excellent high-mountain trips with Rondane as backdrop. Welcome to trail riding at its best!
Spacious in the mountain
Local enthusiasts and cabin owners have used their bikes in the mountain for years, and more are joining them – but there is still plenty of space and numerous excellent trails to enjoy. Queuing is not expected to be problem anytime soon. The mountain biking area offers are excellent flow trails without many obstacles, as well as challenging, rocky areas. There are some muddy sections through which it is important to ride with care (walk across the worst areas to protect the surface as much as possible).
Venabygdsfjellet is unique in that it is home to a population of wild reindeer.
Riding in large groups should be avoided in some areas, and use of bikes in the National Park is not permitted. If unsure, ask the local accommodation providers for advice on suitable routes.
Always show consideration for hikers in the mountain
The peaks in the area are popular for hiking, and in particular at weekends and during holidays. It is therefore wise to avoid the most crowded trails at busy times. In addition to many high-quality trails, there are dirt-roads that allow the whole family to enjoy a trip in beautiful mountain scenery – maybe with a peak hike along the way?
