Fishing in Mjøsa does not require a licence. Mjøsa is Norway’s largest lake and has stocks of large brown trout – a species that feed on other fish. Furthermore, it is the main spawning ground for the fast-growing Hunder trout. Cisco, smelt, and powan are important prey fish for the large trout. Its largest tributary is Gudbrandsdalslågen flowing in from the north. A total of 20 fish species have been recorded in Mjøsa.
