About
Catch the bus from Lillehammer center up to Nordseter and experience the magical Gropmarka back to Lillehammer.
You have two choices on the way through Gropmarka.
Alternative A 13.3 km:
Take the northernmost trail over Grøtåssetra and you will get a wonderful ski ride down to the long marshes through Lillehammer's last wilderness. Over the elongated marshes you will find silence and peace. Twisted pine trees and heavy spruce forest welcome you along with moose and rabbit tracks.
Start from the car park / bus stop at Nordseter:
Cross the road and walk north for 900 meters to the crossroads at Trondsmyra. Go straight ahead (left trail) at frozen intersection and continue straight ahead (right trail) at the other intersection towards Grøtåsen. Follow the trail for 4.8 km until you get Hundervegen on the right. During the next 700 meters you will have two one-track scooter groomed trails on your right hand side. Do not take off here but stick to the main route. The next 3.6 km down to Flømyra you really get the feeling of being alone. At Flømyra you meet again the southern trail route down from Nordseter. At the junction, therefore, go straight ahead (right-hand trail) and continue the next 1.6 km down to Skurvbrua.
At Skurbrua you have to cross the road and then follow the World Cup slopes down to the Birkebeineren Ski Stadium. Cross over here and walk the trail past the biathlon arena before you turn right down the northern downhill slope to Stampesletta.
Alternative B 11.4 km:
This trip is also called Skogsløypa on Skisporet.no. The shortest trail from Nordseter goes in slightly hilly terrain towards Lillehammer. The last part of the trail goes down a gentle slope down to Skurvbrua. Here you cross Nordsetervegen. The last part of the trip is fast and steep down to Birkebeinerstadion and Lillehammer center.
Start from the car park / bus stop at Nordseter:
Cross the road and go north for 900 meters to the crossroads at Trondsmyra. Turn left at the crossroads and walk 700 meters towards Sandbakken through the cabin fields. At the crossroads at Sandbakken, turn right. Now you get 5.6 km with nice descents down to Flømyra where you hit again the trail described in alternative A. Take the trail to the left and follow this 1.6 km down to Skurvbrua.
At Skurbrua you have to cross the road and then follow the World Cup slopes down to the Birkebeineren Ski Stadium. Cross over this and walk the trail past the biathlon arena before you turn right down the northern downhill slope to Stampesletta.
