Although we do not have a Louvre or Sistine Chapel, our vibrant cultural scene will take even the most demanding art lover by surprise. Few other towns can boast such a high number of museums, exhibitions, and local arts & crafts venues per capita.

We have Sigrid Undset, we have Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson, we have Peer Gynt, and we even have a UNESCO City of Literature. There is something for everyone, and in one of the county’s most picturesque pedestrian streets is a choice of shops, cafés, and restaurants on par with the big cities.
